Canyon Welcome House

For thousands of visitors every year, turning into the H. E. Butt Foundation’s network of camps brings a change in mindset. They begin the descent into “the canyon,” the name adopted by those who consider it a second home, with anticipation and often nostalgia. Zuber Construction set out to build this Welcome House to mark this threshold and set a tone for the timeless hospitality that will greet guests down the road.

Inspired by the idea of a “Sunday house,” a name for the home where farming families would gather after church before their trek homeward, this house serves as a rest stop and touchpoint. Locally quarried limestone, exposed timber, and water catchment cisterns further recall the historic building methods native to the Texas Hill Country.
